Reps Pass Minimum Wage Bill At N30,000

  The House of Representatives has passed the National Minimum Wage Bill at N30,000 for workers in the country .   The lawmakers passed the bill during Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara.  They approved the figure after the bill was read and passed for the third time on the floor of the lower chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja. Prior to the passage of the bill, the House adopted the report of the ad-hoc committee set up to look into the bill presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.   It said it decided to adopt the report of the tripartite committee because of the obvious difficult living conditions in the country.  The lawmakers inserted a clause in the bill which makes it effective from the date it is asserted to by the President.   They, however, retained the original clause in the bill which excluded employers of less than 25 people from paying the new minimum wage. Davido reacts to the Suspension of CJN

  Nigerian pop star, David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, has reacted to the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari. Davido   Buhari had on Friday  suspended Onnoghen  and immediately appointed Tanko Mohammed as acting CJN. Explaining his reason, the President said he suspended Onnoghen, following an order from the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, asking him to wield the big stick.   In his speech, Buhari said the order demanded that the CJN be suspended depending the determination of his ongoing trial at the tribunal.   Onnoghen’s suspensuon has since stirred reactions from Nigerians online. Reacting, the ‘assurance’ crooner condemned the development.    He tweeted, “DEMOCRAZYYYY!! WE ARE IN TROUBLE. “We can’t allow this nonsense.”

Barca Agree Deal for Frenkie de Jong

  Ajax FC have comfirmed that a deal worth 75 million euros plus add-ons has been agreed with Spanish giants Barcelona for the transfer of midfielder Frenkie de Jong. De Jong  The 21-year-old is one of Europe’s most sought-after young players after impressing in the Ajax midfield since making his debut in 2016.  De Jong’s profile increased still further when he broke into the Netherlands side earlier this campaign and it seems a big-money move is not far away.   Man City were previously thought to be leading the race after telling Ajax they were willing to pay €70m plus €20m in bonuses to sign De Jong.   However, the Catalan club see De Jong as a key player for the future and were ready to offer bumper personal terms in order to edge ahead of the Premier League champions in the race to sign him.

Obasanjo Ready to Expose Corrupt People in Buhari’s Government

  Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said those in the present administration will not only go to jail but to hell if their corrupt acts were exposed. Obasanjo  He stated this in an interview with the BBC Yoruba. “This is not a prophecy. Those in government today, if we expose them, all of them will enter hell; they will not only go to jail. Aircraft Carrying Cardiff's New Signing Emiliano Sala Disappears

  There is "genuine concern" Premier League footballer Emiliano Sala was on a flight which disappeared between France and Cardiff.   It is feared the Argentine striker was one of two people on board the Piper Malibu, which disappeared off Alderney on Monday night.   Cardiff City, which signed the 28-year-old from French club Nantes on Saturday, said it was "seeking clarification" as to what happened. A search is under way.   Cardiff Airport confirmed the aircraft was due to arrive from Nantes but a spokeswoman said there were no further details.   HM Coastguard said the disappearance was not in the UK search and rescue area, but it had sent two helicopters to help.   A spokeswoman said they were assisting Guernsey Coastguard with a search for a light aircraft off Alderney: "HM Coastguard helicopters from Solent and Newquay have been helping to search overnight with nothing found." Barcelona Confirm Kevin-Prince Boateng Signing

  Barcelona have confirmed the somewhat surprising transfer of Kevin-Prince Boateng from Sassuolo.   The transfer includes a €8 million (£7m/$9m) option to buy, while Barca will pay a €2m loan fee for Boateng to feature for them the remainder of the season.   The 31-year-old will be presented on late on Tuesday morning, with a private contract signing set to be followed with a photo session on the Camp Nou pitch and a press conference at noon UK Time.   A statement on the club's official website reads: "Kevin-Prince Boateng is a player who will surely adapt quickly to the team. Major Shakeup in Nigeria Police, FSARS Affected

  The acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate decentralisation of operations of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) unit.    Before the current development, operations of SARS were centralised at the Force Headquarters. NAN also recalls that SARS operations were recently reorganised following alleged unethical conduct by personnel of the unit.   Mr Adamu gave the order at a meeting with officers in the rank of commissioners of police and above on Monday in Abuja.   He said that with the new arrangement, commissioners of police in the 36 states and the FCT would assume full command and control on all SARS in their commands.

PDP campaign vehicles set ablaze in Enugu

  Campaign vehicles belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have been set ablaze in Enugu.   The incident happened around Tickles Park, at the Ogui New Layout Area of the State.  A chieftain of the party, Mr. Dan Nwomeh, who confirmed the development, said the unknown arsonists burnt down branded PDP campaign vehicles in Enugu. “Three sienna buses completely razed down. Two coaster buses almost gutted before the arrival of the State fire service. Who is doing this?” Nwomeh wrote.   The buses, with the inscription, ‘Gburugburu 2019’, were set ablaze at a popular printing press after they were branded for use.

Chelsea agree deals for two midfielders after Fabregas joins Monaco

   Chelsea have deals in place to sign Leandro Paredes from Zenit and Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella, according to the UK Telegraph. Blues boss, Maurizio Sarri, has told the board to bolster his squad with two new signings this month and wants the club to replace Cesc Fabregas, who has already agreed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Monaco.   They have now agreed deals in principle for both Paredes and Barella, but have not yet decided which player will replace Fabregas. It is also understood that Chelsea are still considering whether a new midfielder is even required this month. Cagliari are demanding a €50million (£45m) transfer fee for Barella, while Zenit value Paredes at €35m (£31.5m).

Hazard reacts as Fabregas leaves Chelsea

   Chelsea star, Eden Hazard, has paid tribute to Cesc Fabregas and wished the outgoing midfielder all the best for the future.   Fabregas made what is thought to be his final Chelsea appearance on Saturday, as the Blues beat Nottingham Forest 2-0, to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.   The Spain legend is out of contract at the end of the season and is close to agreeing a deal to join Ligue 1 outfit Monaco in January.   An emotional Fabregas missed a penalty against Nottingham Forest, but still received a standing ovation at Stamford Bridge, as he left the field.   Asked what Fabregas means to Chelsea following the game, Hazard said: “Everything. In five years I can say that I was lucky to play with him. Since the beginning when he came we won the double together. “Top guy on the pitch and off the pitch. A great friend of mine. I just have admiration for this guy. “I hope he will have a good future. He is still a very good player. He will enjoy it.”

  Following the alleged saga between Davido and Kizz Daniel’s manager at the “Davido Live in concert” at Eko Atlantic on December 27, Kizz Daniel’s Fly Boy Inc. has announced new management and a new public relations personnel.   Recall that it was reported that Kizz daniel’s former manager, Lawrence called out Davido for allegedly slapping him and all those who witnessed the assault but overlooked it, an allegation that Davido denied.   An official statement was issued today stating that the label is now represented by Rebecca Junaid and Ogaga Sakpaide as the new management and new public relations personnel respectively.

Nigerian Air Force Announces Burial Date for Victims of Helicopter crash

  The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Monday announced the date for the burial of five crew members, who died in the MI-35 helicopter that crashed at Damask, Borno State   The helicopter crashed while providing close air support to troops of 145 Battalion on the 2nd of January, 2019.   The funeral will take place on January 8(today) at the National Military Cemetery, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Way, Abuja.   The five crew members are: Flight Lieutenant Perowei Jacob (Pilot in Command), Flight Lieutenant Kaltho Paul Kilyofas (Co-Pilot), Sergeant Auwal Ibrahim (Flight Technician), Lance Corporal Adamu Nura (Gunner) and Aircraftman Meshack Ishmael (Gunner).

 Chocolate city music star, Koker has quietly parted ways with the MI Abaga led record company. Koker   Koker’s exit from the label became obvious a few days ago when he dropped his latest song ‘Daddy’ featuring Falz under his own ‘Koke Boy’ imprint as against the usual Choc Boy imprint. All information about Chocolate City on his social media handles have also changed to his ‘Koke Boy’ movement.   Back in November 2017 when news filtered that Koker may be leaving the label, he told Punchng that, ‘does it look like I’m not with them anymore? There is no truth to any rumour whatsoever. Chelsea Complete Signing Of Dortmund Star Christian Pulisic

   Chelsea have signed Borussia Dortmund forward Christian Pulisic for 64m euros (£58m), but will loan him to the German club until the end of the season.  The 20-year-old United States international, who was linked with Liverpool and Arsenal, joined Dortmund as a youth player in 2015. Pulisic  Pulisic has scored nine goals in 23 games for the US. “It was always Christian’s dream to play in the Premier League,” said Dortmund director Michael Zorc. “That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract.  “Against this background, we have decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity.” Pulisic’s contract at Dortmund was due to expire in June 2020.

Air Force Helicopter Crashes in Boko Haram Combat

  A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) helicopter crashed in combat on Wednesday night while providing close air support to troops of 145 Battalion at Damasak in Northern Borno State. Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, Director of Public Relations and Information disclosed this, but he did not disclose the model of the helicopter or how many personnel were inside it at the time the crash happened. Nigerian Air Force has over a dozen Russian made helicopters, MMil Mi-17 and Mil Mi-24 models.    Daramola said the aircraft was involved in the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North East. “The incident, occurred about 7:45 pm, 2 January 2019. Details of the cause of the crash are still scanty”, he said.

New Year’s Eve Tragedy in Ondo road accident

   Eight persons have been reported dead after a road crash which occurred at Ore, in Odigbo local government area of Ondo State. The deceased, who were said to be transiting through the state, were burnt to death in the lone accident. The accident occurred on the popular Oluwa Bridge at Ore.    It was said to have been caused when the tyre of the Toyota Hiace bus in which the deceased were traveling in caught fire.    Confirming the accident, the Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ondo State Sector command, Segun Ogungbemide said the vehicle’s tyre got damaged before it went up in flames while on top speed.   Ogungbemide revealed that eight passengers in the bus were burnt to death in the accident and that their bodies have been deposited in the morgue.
