FG releases fresh statement of N5000 stipend

The federal government has released fresh information concerning the disbursement of N5000 to poor people in the country. The federal government had announced the payment of the promised stipends to poor people in the country although Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti described it as mere propaganda. The Ekiti governor claimed the fund was provided by the World Bank and that the federal government was only contributing a little. The government however explained that the World Bank has not provided funds yet as it was part of the proposed plan to borrow yet to be approved by the National Assembly. Army arrest to local government officials sponsoring Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of two council officials in Borno state, with alleged links to Boko Haram insurgents. Maj.- Gen. Lucky Irabor, The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, made the confirmation during a news conference at the headquarters of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, The council officials are Alhaji Shettima Lawan, chairman of Mafa Local Government Area, and the Vice chairman of Kaga local government also in the state. Shekau spotted in area close to Cameroon

Following the capture of Camp Zero which is the strong-hold of Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa Forest, Abubakar Shekau has been reportedly sighted at Kala-Balge area. Shekau who is the factional leader of the terrorist group was not captured in the mop-up raid in the forest which took place on Friday, December 23. Although the Boko Haram leader was spotted in a recent video claiming the dreaded group is still strong, the Nigerian Army has dismissed it as mere propaganda. Many feared dead as Boko Haram launched surprise attack against army

Nigerian troops on Operation Lafiya Dole engaged Boko Haram terrorists in an early-morning gun fire which lead to the death of about 15 terrorists. According to Premium Times, the gun fire started around 6 am on Friday, December 30 in Borno state and ended by 9 am. It was reported that the terrorists launched a surprise attack against troops Rann, in northern Borno where soldiers from 3 Battalion and 112 Task Force Battalion are stationed. The soldiers responded promptly ant attacked the terrorists who were firing sporadically. At the end of the gun fire, about 15 terrorists were killed while some were injured. Another source in the military said the number of terrorists that died was more than 15 as some of them escaped with gunshot wounds. It was however confirmed that four Nigerian soldiers were wounded in action while the nearby 22 Brigade has been contacted to send air ambulance to evacuate a soldier who was seriously injured. I Don’t Know Anything About Judges Saga – Buhari

   President Muhammadu Buhari denied the accusation against him saying he is behind the recent arrest of two Supreme Court justice. Buhari asked the media and Nigerians to stop the habit of accusing him over the case of judges who were arrested by the DSS (Department of State Service) operative for the allegation corruption and mistreatment of office. Two of Buhari Ministers were accused by some of the arrested justice, declaring that the ministers try to influence them to mention President Buhari name in the decision in favourable the recent government. Buhari said this in a statement issued yesterday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu saying he would be the last person to sanction anyone to induce a judge to distort the classes of justice.

125 Students Expelled From Unilag For ‘Misconduct’

     125 students have been expelled by the University of Lagos (Unilag) over acts related to academic misconduct and forgery of results.          The university published the names of the affected students on its website. 73 were also suspended for the same related offences.   Those suspended had penalties ranging from two to four semesters.   The institution’s management has been in conflict with some of its union leaders who were earlier rusticated.   In April 2016, the school was shut down by students protesting the poor living conditions they were experiencing on campus.    The union leaders were suspended over their role in the protest.    The suspended union leaders include president, Muhammed Olaniyan; Speaker, Adeyanju Adeonipkun; General Secretary, Emmanuel Afolabi; Public Relations Officer, Jumai Fagbui; Chief Whip, Akinnubi Pedro; Sport Secretary, Anita Kaizer, and Financial Secretary, Oluwatobi Ojo.

This Electric Bus Can Travel 350 Miles on Single Charge

        In an effort to make public transportation a lot more environmentally friendly, many cities have begun switching over to hybrid vehicles or alternative fuels. American electric vehicle manufacturer, Proterra, has announced a new fleet of electric, zero-emission buses that can travel 350 miles (560 kilometers) on a single charge. The company’s latest design, the Catalyst E2 Series, is set for release next year. The electric bus is named after its unprecedented twin mattress-sized battery pack that can store up to 660 kWh. As per Proterra, the electric bus will be able to complete a full day’s work without needing to be recharged for almost every mass transit route in the U.S. The Catalyst E2 Series is expected to hit the streets in 2017. JAMB scraps use of scratch cards

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has scrapped the use of scratch cards in any of its transactions and services, describing it as “archaic”, its Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has announced.     He also demanded that the Federal Government should revert to the former system where serving Vice Chancellors of Universities were made chairmen of the Governing Board of JAMB. A statement issued by the Spokesperson of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, obtained by THE PUNCH on Sunday, said, Oloyede made the announcement in Abuja in a paper he delivered during a meeting of the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities. 50 children raped in the state within the last four months - Plateau State Government

       About 50 children have been raped in the state in the past four months alone, according to a shocking data disclosed by Plateau State Government: "Our records show 50 recent cases of rape in the state. This is just within the last four months or so," Mrs. Rufina Gurumyen, state commissioner for Women Affairs told newsmen in Jos, ahead of the launch of the state initiative to End Violence Against the Children (EndVAC), later this week. The initiative is a national child protection campaign funded by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).  "The last two cases are just days away; one in Jos involving a suspect who raped a child of two years, and another in Langtan. Boko Haram attacking village near Chibok

     Armed gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram are currently attacking Kuburvwa Village‎ which is just 10 km from Chibok Town. According to Premium Times, an official of the Borno state vigilante Group, Abbas Gava, who confirmed the attack, said suspected sect members stormed the village at about 6.30 p.m, shooting sporadically into the air. “As I am speaking to you now the gunmen are setting every house on fire after chasing the villagers away. From the information we have received from our operatives in Chibok and Kautikari, the number of casualty cannot be ascertained for now because the Boko Haram insurgents are still in the village”he said
