Oil production cost drops from $70/barrel to $27/barrel

    Nigerians will soon have reasons to smile following a recent success recorded by the nation's oil sector. According to a report by oilprice.com, the unit technical cost for producing oil has dropped from $70/barrel to $27/barrel in about two years. Makanti Baru, the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), made this revelation on Thursday, February 23, stating that this development is monitored from 2014-2016. He was quoted to have said: “With reduced cost of production, govt’s share of economic revenue will improve which means reduced budget deficit," adding that Nigeria will no longer import petroleum by 2019. The report also revealed that the rig rates for NNPC's deep offshore operations have dropped drastically from US$580,000 to US$164,000 per day, the official said. Violent protest erupts in Ogun market over invasion by customs officers

   A protest by angry youths and rice sellers in Ogun is reportedly turning violent at the Sango-Ota area of the state with the participants blocking the two ends of the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway. The protesters are angry over alleged invasion of their markets by officers of the Nigerian Customs Service The protesters, according to reports, are provoked by the constant invasion and attacks on rice sellers and other business people by officers of the Nigerian Customs Service. Sango-Ota is a few kilometres from Benin Republic and there have been usual clashes between custom officers and alleged smugglers. But some of the rice sellers allege that the customs officers often storm their shops and stalls at the Sango-Ota market to confiscate their goods even when they were not found to have smuggled such. FG releases fresh statement of N5000 stipend

The federal government has released fresh information concerning the disbursement of N5000 to poor people in the country. The federal government had announced the payment of the promised stipends to poor people in the country although Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti described it as mere propaganda. The Ekiti governor claimed the fund was provided by the World Bank and that the federal government was only contributing a little. Shekau spotted in area close to Cameroon

Many feared dead as Boko Haram launched surprise attack against army

Nigerian troops on Operation Lafiya Dole engaged Boko Haram terrorists in an early-morning gun fire which lead to the death of about 15 terrorists. According to Premium Times, the gun fire started around 6 am on Friday, December 30 in Borno state and ended by 9 am. It was reported that the terrorists launched a surprise attack against troops Rann, in northern Borno where soldiers from 3 Battalion and 112 Task Force Battalion are stationed. The soldiers responded promptly ant attacked the terrorists who were firing sporadically. At the end of the gun fire, about 15 terrorists were killed while some were injured. Another source in the military said the number of terrorists that died was more than 15 as some of them escaped with gunshot wounds.    President Muhammadu Buhari denied the accusation against him saying he is behind the recent arrest of two Supreme Court justice. Buhari asked the media and Nigerians to stop the habit of accusing him over the case of judges who were arrested by the DSS (Department of State Service) operative for the allegation corruption and mistreatment of office. Two of Buhari Ministers were accused by some of the arrested justice, declaring that the ministers try to influence them to mention President Buhari name in the decision in favourable the recent government.
