Pedro suffered 'multiple fractures' in collision with Ospina
Pedro won't be available for the remainder of Chelsea's pre-season tour of Southeast Asia after being wiped out by Arsenal's David Ospina in Saturday's friendly between the two London rivals.
The Spaniard charged after a long ball from David Luiz with Gunners youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles, only to be beaten to it by the fists of Ospina. Unfortunately for Pedro, he was treated to a knuckle sandwich in the Colombian goalkeeper's follow-through.
"The situation was more serious than I thought because I hoped it would only be concussion and instead he had multiple fractures," manager Antonio Conte explained of Pedro's complaint on Monday. "With a mask, and in around 10 days, he can come back to work with us."
Conte absolved Ospina of any responsibility in Pedro's injuries, noting that the Arsenal shot-stopper was only focused on expelling the ball from danger.
The timeframe for Pedro's return means fans in Singapore won't be able to see the three-time Champions League winner in upcoming friendlies against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, respectively.
There will be a bonus for those attending that tour, however, with Conte revealing he intends to field new star striker Alvaro Morata in Tuesday's meeting with Bayern Munich.
