  A luxury hotel in Dubai, the UAE, was engulfed in a fire in the evening of December 31, 2015. Multiple floors were immediately affected. The Address hotel is the sixth-tallest building in the city, with 63 floors 302 metres tall. It has about 200 rooms and over 600 apartments. It is located near the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa. Local media say the hotel and the nearby Dubai Mall have been evacuated. President Buhari has made it clear to Senators that he will not assent to the Social Media Bill being pushed forward by the senate. President Buhari made his position known through his Senior Special Assistant to Media and publicity Shehu Garba. He said the principle of the bill was inconsistent with democratic ideals of free speech enshrined in the Nigerian constitution, stressing that he had sworn while coming into office to uphold the dictates of the constitution. “He is not averse to lawful regulation, so long as that is done within the ambit of the constitution which he swore to uphold. The President won’t assent to any legislation that may be inconsistent with the constitution of Nigeria”, Garba said. He further explained that without free speech, elected representatives won’t be able to have a good connection with their electorates “As a key component of democratic principles are so emotionally attached to free speech that they would defend it with all their might”, he said.

The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta has announced Tuesday, 15th December, 2015 as date for Mop-up examination into all Full-Time and Part-Time National Diploma and Higher National Diploma Programmes of the Polytechnic. The examination, which will hold on Tuesday, 15th December, 2015 by 9 O’clock in the morning, is expected to be attended by candidates, who did not take part in previous examinations but must have completed the online application and screening forms. The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), has dispensed fuel to motorists and motorcyclists for free in a filling station in Kaduna State. The station, Samrada Nigeria Limited, located at Romi Junction in the state capital, was said to have a total of 19, 500 litres of fuel which it was hoarding. The agency, led by the Zonal Controller, Usman Ndanusa, during its routine inspection of petrol stations across the state, discovered that the petrol station was also selling above the Federal Government’s approved price of 87 Naira per litre, only at night. The Manager of the filling station however complained of not getting the product from the depot at government approved price, hence they have to adjust their retail prices. The DPR officials also ordered another filling station along Romi Road to reverse to the 87 Naira pump price per litre, as against the 135 Naira it was selling. The owner of the filling station was fined the sum of 100,000 Naira for selling above the approve

President Muhamamdu Buhari has expressed sadness over the bomb blast at a motor park in Yola, Adamawa state, that claimed lives of innocent people. In a series of tweets posted by Garba Shehu, the president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, Buhari shared sincere condolences to the families, relatives of the victims of the suspected Book Haram attack. Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, also has condoled with people of Adamawa state over the deadly attack. “My thoughts and prayers are with my people in my home state. Terror will be defeated!”  he wrote in his Facebook post.
